History

Schopwick Surgery dates back to 1931 and has continued to expand and service the local community. In 1994 the new Bushey Surgery was created on the site of the old Bushey Community hospital.

The Practice has two sites. Our teams work across both sites. As a patient you can attend either site. Our clinical team includes GPs, practice nurses, nursing associate, health care assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical pharmacists and MSK practitioner.

Our long-standing team takes great pride in the quality of medical service we provide by putting patients at the heart of everything we do.

Teaching & Training

Our Practice is an approved training practice and learning organisation. Being involved in education hopefully raises the standard of care we offer and benefits patients. We strongly believe that by taking on the responsibility for teaching and training others, we anchor ourselves in commitment to provide best healthcare.

We have GP registrars working at the Surgery. They are fully qualified doctors who have already worked for several years in hospitals, and who are now training to be general practitioners. As part of their on-going education and assessment, on occasions there will be video recordings of patients’ consultations. These recordings will be undertaken with consent of each patient. All videos are kelp confidential and are destroyed when no longer required.

Medical Students

The practice is involved in the training of medical students. They sometimes ‘sit-in’ and at times do history taking providing you are happy for them to do so. If you agree to have medical students conduct your consultation you will still always see the GP as well. If you would prefer not to have them in attendance, please tell the doctor or member of reception team.

Other Health Professionals

We also train other health professionals at our Practice including nurses, pre-registration pharmacists and nursing associates.

We are very grateful to patients for helping us train the next generation of health care professionals who will work alongside us in the NHS.

Research

Schopwick Surgery is involved in carrying out medical research at the practice. This research can take many different forms such as asking patients and staff to fill in questionnaires or patients being sent invitations to join a research study.

There are many different types of research and different ways you may be asked if you would like to get involved including:

  • Filling out questionnaires
  • Use of your anonymised data
  • Taking part in interviews
  • Trying new medication treatments

This is all NHS England approved and please be reminded that you whether you choose to get involved or not is completely voluntary, you don’t have to. This will not affect your relationship with the clinician.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us and we thank you for your help in aiding us in working with NHS research teams to better healthcare and advance treatment to improve patient care.
